Is Mr Eazi a Ghanaian or a Nigerian?

Mr Eazi who is well known Nigerian musician goes by the name Oluwatodin Ajibade, but is popularly known by his stage name ‘Mr Eazi’. He was born in 1991, on the 19th of July, and was also brought up in Port Harcourt, the capital of River State. He grew up with his parents. His father was a pilot and his mother owned a small-scale business.

Mr Eazi’s life

Oluwatodin Ajibade popularly known as Mr Eazi was born on the 19th of July, 1991. He is a Nigerian- born, however, a Ghana – base singer. He was raised by his lovely parent in Port Harcourt, River State, Nigeria. He loves music right from a tender age and joined the school choir when he attended a primary school in Lagos. He relocated to Ghana in 2008, at the age of 16Years to continue his educational career he enroll to study mechanical engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He started recording music while he was still in KNUST. He was well known for his amazing performance on stage as an MC and also booking of artists to perform at parties. He gained more Popular and won the heart of the Ghanaians.

He wrote and recorded a song titled ‘My Life’ which won the people in Ghana and he became popular at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He was able to gain more fans and he kept on with his MC performance and also promoted a company called  Swagger Entertainment. He relocated back to Nigeria when he was 23years where he open his e-commerce platform. He runs other couples of businesses as well. He gave up on being a club promoter when an artist disappointed him by not showing up at one of the big parties that he throw.

Parents

Mr Eazi’s parents are not known by his fans. His parents are still alive and healthy. His father is from Yewa in Ogun state, while his mother is from the south-south region of Nigeria. His father’s name is Captain Alexander Olukayode Ajibade. He was a pilot and he retired from the Nigerian Air Force after 19years in the service.

How Ghana came into the picture

Mr Eazi’s musical root is traced to Ghana based on the fact that his music career began there. He became popular in Ghana, starting as MC, and hiring musicians to perform in a show. During his MCing he loves to advise his fans to take am easy. “easy easy Je Je,” Which is where is got his stage name from ‘Mr. Eazi’.

Mr Eazi’s Music Career

He started singing When he was in KNUST where he recorded ‘My Life’. He made his first appearance with his 13track mixtape ‘About to Blow’ in 2013. He recorded the song within a week with producer Klu and was released immediately. The Feder Magazine describes the mixtape as a “heavily dance halt learning sounds cloud playlist”. Mr. Eazi worked with a lot of great music producers in the likes of Nohana, D’Tunes, E-Kelly, and many more.  He featured on stay Jay’s “Baby Lace” and lousika’s “knockout”.

He relocated back to Nigeria on 2014. He was been contacted by producer Juls who is a UK-based Ghanaian producer. Just produced and recreated a beat and artwork for his second Mixtape single titled “Bankulize”. It was released in November 2014. He featured Pappy Kojo (Ghanaian hiplife artist). An official Remix of “Bankulize” was released in September 2016 featuring Burns Boy.

Mr Eazi released a dancehall-influenced track “Skin Tight” in August 2015. He features Efya( A Ghanaian Singer). The song was produced by DJ Juls and was a hit song and it went viral. Mr. Eazi collaborated with Terry G to release a remix of the song in 2016. Nigerian record producer Cobhams Asuquo released a rendition of the song in August 2016. In September 2016 DJ Caise released a remix of the song Skin Tight. it was featured in an ad for the Vodka brand in April 2017.

Mr  Eazi was featured on Eugy’s 2016 hit single “Dance for me”. The song was shortlisted for the 10 biggest African tracks in 2016. The mucus video was directed by Vertex and Gabriella Kingsley. The song was described as a “Salute to their joint Ghanaian heritage by Robin Murray of clash magazine. In May 2016, Mr. Eazi announced Is plans for his songs. On 17th June 2016, he released R&B titled “Anointing ” featuring Sarkodie (Ghanaian Rapper).

Mr  Eazi was been disqualified from the Ghana Music Award in February 2016, based on his nationality. He was only eligible to compete for the African Artists of the Year. He released his second Mixtape on 10th February 2017 titled “Life is Eazi, vol. 1 Accra to Lagos”. The song was captivating and viral. It was placed number 4 on the World Album Chart billboard. The mixtape was 14 tracks including the Bounce tracks. Guest artists were featured in the Mixtape including Tekno, DJ Cuppy, Falz, Olamide, Phyno, Medikal, Mugeez, and Big Lean. Its production was been handled by Maleek Berry, Masterkraft, Legendury Beatz, and Young John. The mixtape had 200,000 copies sold on pre-order when he was talking to Julie Adenuga on her Beat 1 radio show. He also told her that the tape was a tribute to the two cities that influenced the evolution of his sound.

Mr  Eazi had another release of Is single Mixtape on the 2nd December 2016 titled “Leg Over” which was produced by E-Kelly. He featured Comedian Eddi kadi, Maleek, and Wizkid in the song. He describes the song to be about being taken advantage of in a relationship. The song inspired a lot of people and dances video. The were a lot of reviews of the songs by his fans. Gabriel Myers review the song to be “gentle and minimalist”, and Hanson said it is “freshened by delicate strings and percussion placements reminiscent of high life from a decade ago”.

Mr  Eazi released a lot of his singles songs in 2017. On the 1st of February 2017, he released “Tilapia” featuring Madikal. On 1st March 2017, he released another music video titled “In the morning” featuring Big Lean (Toronto Rapper) and directed by the Sesan. On the 1st of April 2017, he released a music video titled “Fight” featuring DJ Cuppy and was directed by Teekay. Six days from when he drop Fight i.e 7th April 2017, He released another music video titled “Business” featuring R2Bees.

It was been announced in January 2019, that Mr.  Eazi will be performing at the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival. Mr Eazi launched emPawa Africa in August 2019. The emPawa is a talent incubation initiative that is designed to nurture and support Up-and-coming African artists. Thirty musicians are to be enrolled in the first edition and they would receive grants and mentorship to scale up their music careers. The emPawa is also supported by YouTube music. Mr Eazi announced his EP (Extended play) in January 2021 titled “Something Else” to be released on the 19th of February. He released a song through the emPawa Africa on the 10th June 2022 titled “Legalize”.

Mr Eazi won the Most Promising Act to Watch in the Nigerian Entertainment Award, the Next Rated in the Headies Award, Best New Artist in the Soundcity MVP Award, and Special Recognition Award Music Video Africa “Skin Tight” (featuring Efya) in the WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards in 2016, he was also nominated for Best African Act in the MOBO Award, Song of the Year “Hollup” (featuring Joey B and Dammy Krane), Viewers Choice “Hollup” (featuring Joey B and Dammy Krane), Listeners Choice “Skin Tight” (featuring Efya). In 2017 he was nominated for the Afropop Male Artist in Nigeria Entertainment Award and Best African Act in the MOBO Award. In 2018 he was nominated for the Hip Pop World Revelation Headies award,

Mr Eazi Personal Life

Mr Eazi is a well popular musician and he has been in a relationship with Temi Otedola, daughter of Femi Otedola and a sister to DJ Cuppy. He took a step further by engaging her on the 10th of April 2022, making her his fiancee.

Conclusion

Mr Eazi is a Nigerian born and brought up in Port Harcourt, River State. He relocated to Ghana for his studies and he started his music career over there, where he gained his stage name Mr. Eazi.  He is popular know in Nigeria that has won Major Awards and has been well nominated for Major awards as well. He is engaged to Temi Otedola, daughter of one of the Nigerian Billionaires and a sister to DJ Cuppy.
